the existing garage had functioned as many different things over it’s 100 year history (pharmacy, cobbler, food distributer, coffee roaster), but never as a home...
this new ground-up home was designed as a retirement home for two Michiganders. the goals of the project were to meet Passive House standards, while incorporating some site generated power and a greenhouse and garden, while taking advantage of a narrow view to Lake Michigan and the uniquely sloped and wooded site...
this east village mixed use building has two artists’ residence units, an office floor and a retail floor. the building was in rough shape, and needed an overhaul after various additions and alterations had compromised its’ systems...
